Members of Dunoon Community Shed Model Railway Group and Modelling Group attended the Greenock and District Model Railway Clubs 40th Anniversary exhibition at Lyle Kirk, Greenock last weekend with their Swiss layout St Morten and came away with a trophy. The Keith Taylor Shield is awarded by the Greenock Club members to recognise and honour outstanding model railway layout contributions at their annual exhibition.
The Shed’s Model Railway Group was formed three and a half years ago and now has more than twenty members, and a dedicated space at the Shed where a large layout is being built in addition to a test track and two other layouts.
It’s great to see members of the Shed getting involved in exhibitions promoting both the Community Shed and Dunoon itself. There has been a great deal of interest from people in the various aspects of railway modelling; whether it be layout construction, scenery building, repairing of locomotives, skills improvement or just running trains. The award of the Keith Taylor trophy, when you consider we were up against fourteen other layouts, is testament to the efforts of our members in bringing the layout up to exhibition standard and operating it over a full weekend. Such has been the success of the Group that we are now looking at hosting a Model Railway Exhibition ourselves in Queens Hall Dunoon in August 2027.

The DCS Model Railway Group formally meets on Thursday evenings at the Community Shed on Hamilton Street (just before Fynewood) from 7.00pm until 9.00pm, with some members also attending on normal Shed opening days of Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am till 3pm.
The Modelling Group meet on Saturday afternoons from 1.00pm until 3.00pm.
New potential members are very welcome – just come down and introduce yourself.
